Battery Handling Guidelines

  • Avoid dropping the battery, as it may cause damage.
  • Do not open or cut the protective shrink wrap around the battery pack, as this action will void any applicable warranty and may damage the battery.
  • Extreme temperatures can stress lithium-ion batteries, leading to decreased capacity, performance, and lifespan. Store batteries in recommended temperature ranges (32°F – 77°F) and avoid exposure to temperatures above 104°F for extended periods.
  • Do not charge a battery directly after use; wait at least 30 minutes before charging it after applying a load.
  • Never charge a battery that has been dropped.
  • Ensure correct polarity connection when charging and discharging battery packs.
  • Do not mix old and new batteries or batteries with different brand names.
  • For larger battery packs (10Ah or larger), use a smart charger with a temperature sensor to prevent overheating accidents.
  • Charge all AmericanElectric batteries and packs at least every 2 months to maintain capacity and prevent complete battery failure.

Charging Practices

  • Avoid charging battery packs in series; charge each pack individually to prevent incorrect battery recognition and potential overcharging.
  • Select a charge rate current that does not exceed the battery's allowed charging current. Please double-check the battery's specifications for this information.

Proper Charging Environment

  • For additional safety place the battery in a fireproof container and charge it in an isolated area, away from flammable materials.
  • Always have a fire extinguisher nearby for emergency use.
  • Allow the battery to cool down to ambient temperature before charging.

Storage & Transportation

  • Store batteries at room temperature between 40°F and 80°F.
  • Avoid exposing battery packs to direct sunlight or heat for extended periods.
  • During transportation or temporary storage in a vehicle, ensure temperatures are between 20°F and 150°F.
  • Storage temperatures exceeding 170°F for more than 2 hours may damage the battery and pose a fire risk.

General Guidelines and Warnings

  • Only use specific Li-ion chargers; using NiMH or NiCd chargers may cause fire and personal injury.
  • Never charge batteries unattended; always monitor the charging process.
  • Be cautious of technical deficiencies in chargers that may lead to improper charging.
  • Remove the battery from damaged packages and place it in a safe area for observation in case of mishandled shipments.
  • If terminal wires need to be cut, cut each wire separately to prevent short circuits.

Charging and Maintenance

  • Use a good quality Lithium Ion Smart/Trickle charger for charging.
  • Set voltage and current correctly to avoid fire hazards.
  • Do not discharge the battery below 3V per cell under load to maintain battery performance.
  • Avoid puncturing the cell, as it may cause a fire.
  • Charge the battery every 2 months to keep it fresh if not in regular use.
  • Let the battery cool down to ambient temperature before charging.
  • Do not exceed 160°F during discharge and battery handling.
  • Avoid storing or charging battery packs inside a car in extreme temperatures, as this could cause fire.
  • Take precautions to protect the battery from damage by liquid or dropping.
